What is a Windows Azure Preview Feature?
Windows Azure preview features represent the latest capabilities that have been added to our cloud platform. These features are in a state of development that is similar to Release Previews for Microsoft Windows or the Developer Previews for Microsoft Windows Server. Preview features have been thoroughly tested and passed through our QA process.
Here’s your chance to be one of the first to try it out. We’ll be using information from preview users to make the final product even better. So, we encourage you to participate in our online communities and Windows Azure forums and send feedback, because we are listening, and we want to hear from you.
Preview features have some unique characteristics. To provide a good preview experience and to help make sure we are able respond to your feedback, we throttle access to some of our preview features. If you do end up initially queued for access to a preview feature, know that we are making every effort to provide access to all of our interested customers.
Preview features also don’t cost anything additional on top of standard billing meters needed to access the feature, and in some cases, those meters are even discounted during the preview period. For detailed pricing information, please see our pricing page.
Finally, Window Azure does not provide a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for preview features. Please see our SLA page for more information.
Other Frequently Asked Questions
- Why did I not get immediate access when I requested to use a preview feature?
We are likely at capacity for the number of users we can allow to use that feature at this time. You have been placed in a queue for the preview feature that you are interested in using. We work daily to expand the number of people that can access our preview features, and as soon as we can confirm preview acceptance for you, you will be notified via the contact email you provided during sign up.
- How do you decide who and when people get access to a preview feature?
All of our preview features have first-in-first-out (FIFO) queues. When we expand the number of users who have access to a preview feature, the users that signed up the earliest are selected first.
- Where can I get updates on my status, or how close I am to getting access?
At the top of this page, we provide basic information on the length and status of any queues for our preview features. Where possible we will provide time estimates in those status updates. Customer Support nor any of the forum moderators will be able to tell you how close you are to getting access. As soon as we can confirm preview acceptance for you, you will be notified via the contact email you provided during sign up.
- How will I be notified when I have access to a preview feature?
You will be notified via the contact email you provided during sign up.
- Where is the best place to provide feedback about a preview feature?
We encourage you to share any feedback you have about our preview features. The best place to provide that feedback is in our Windows Azure forums.
